Captain Mario A. Arriaga
The Plainfield Police Department is led by the Chief of Police Michael G. Surprenant and assisted by his second in command, Captain Mario A. Arriaga. However, credit for the Department's success belongs to the men and women both sworn officers and civilian employees that demonstrate day-after-day dedication and hard work to the Town of Plainfield.
Chief Surprenant was raised in the Town of Plainfield. He is a graduate of Plainfield High School and has an Associates Degree in the field of Criminal Justice from Three Rivers Community College. Chief Surprenant started his law enforcement career at the Plainfield Police Department in 1996 as a Patrol Officer. He spent time as an undercover narcotics officer with the Statewide Narcotics Task Force before he was was promoted to the position of Sergeant. He rose through the ranks to Deputy Chief and graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy. Chief Surprenant was then promoted to Chief of Police in 2012.
Captain Arriaga was born and raised in the City of Willimantic before moving to the Town of Hampton. He is a graduate of Parish Hill High School, holds an Associates Degree from Becker College, and a Bachelor's Degree from California Coast University. Currently he is working on his Master's Degree in Executive Leadership from California Southern University. Captain Arriaga started his career with the Plainfield Police Department in 1999 as a Dispatcher. At the age of 21, he was sworn in as an officer and quickly rose through the ranks. He has extensive training in crime scene management and investigation. Captain Arriaga is also the training officer for the department, He was promoted to the Police Captain in 2012.
